Leeds Rhinos captain Ash Handley has been ruled out of the Super League leaders’ trip to Castleford Tigers on Sunday after having an appendix operation.

The centre will be out for three weeks after he had surgery to remove his inflamed appendix earlier this week.

That time-frame means he is also likely to miss their next two Super League games against Bradford Bulls and Toulouse.

Leeds hooker Jarrod O’Connor will also miss the Castleford game after showing signs of delayed concussion and is following the return-to-play protocol.

Rhinos are already without prop Keenan Palasia for six weeks with a foot injury, while winger Ryan Hall is also sidelined with the foot problem he suffered at the Magic Weekend win over Bradford at the start of the month.

There is some good news for Leeds with prop Cooper Jenkins cleared to play after being forced out of last week’s win over Catalans Dragons with an eye injury.
