A 36-year-old man has been arrested after being seen with a suspected firearm on the grounds of a church in Bangor, County Down.
It comes after a man with an angle grinder was seen causing damage near Bangor Abbey on the Newtownards Road at about 21:20 BST on Thursday.
Church members contacted police after they reportedly approached the man and saw what they suspected to be a firearm in his pocket.
Officers, as well as armed response officers, were dispatched to the scene and located the suspect at a nearby address.
The 36 year old was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and criminal damage.
He remains in custody at this time.
Police have asked for those with information to contact them.
