Aberthaw power station chimney demolished in controlled explosion

This is the moment a 502ft (152m) chimney stack at the former Aberthaw power station was demolished in a controlled explosion.

The local landmark, which was completed in 1964, has been cleared to make space for a green energy park.

Aberthaw, in the Vale of Glamorgan, was Wales’ last coal-fired power station and closed in 2020.

People were able to watch the blast from an official viewing point at Fonmon Castle on Friday morning.
