Aaron Lewis returns to Newport County after leaving Mansfield Town

Aaron Lewis has re-signed for Newport County after being released by Mansfield Town at the end of last season.

Midfielder or defender Lewis, 28, returns to his native south Wales three years after leaving the Exiles to join Mansfield.

A former Swansea City youngster, Lewis had spells at Doncaster Rovers and Lincoln City before first joining Newport on loan from the Imps in 2020.

After signing a permanent deal in 2021, Lewis played a total of 102 Newport games – and scored four goals – before joining Mansfield.

He made 133 appearances and scored five times for the Stags, with whom he won promotion from the fourth tier in 2023-24.

Lewis, who could feature when Newport host Grimsby Town on Saturday, said he first spoke to the League Two club about a potential return in the summer.

“Obviously I know the club, the fans, everything like that, I know what this club’s all about,” Lewis told the Newport website.
