TikTok star Morgan James says it has been a “wild” journey from first posting on the app in 2019 to gaining 1.1 million followers.

James, who is originally from Brighton, was inspired by a friend to post music content on TikTok before branching out and doing lifestyle videos.

“It’s incredible that it has become a full-time job, it was never the plan,” he said. “I was just posting because I love creating.”

The creator, who used to be a videographer and wedding singer, said it was “incredible” to be able “to make my hobby my job”.

James’ career has taken him abroad to the premiere of season two of Squid Games in South Korea, the set of Malice with Jack Whitehall in Greece, and even the Love Island villa where host Maya Jama threw a pie in his face.

In November, James was named storyteller of the year at the TikTok UK and Ireland Awards 2025.

“It was just wild,” he said.

“When they called my name, I just can’t describe the feeling to be honest.

“It sort of feels like everything that I’ve been working towards on TikTok over the last five, six years went up to that moment and to receive that award as recognition for my work was incredible.”

James, who now lives in London, studied music, musical theatre and photography at East Sussex College before making TikTok his full-time job.

Rebecca Conroy, CEO and principal of the college, said: “His journey shows the power of creative education and what can happen when young people are encouraged to explore their passions.

“He represents the very best of our alumni community, and his success will no doubt inspire many more students to follow their own creative paths.”
