Mark Carney has won the race to succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada’s prime minister. The former central banker secured a landslide victory in the Liberal Party leadership contest.
In his speech, he criticised Donald Trump’s trade policies and vowed to defend Canada’s economy. Carney is set to be sworn in soon and may face an early general election.
The BBC spoke to Canadians from across the country in Montreal, in the province of Quebec about the issues that matter most to them.
