Inside Mississippi’s ballot counting in tight Senate race

The BBC’s Carl Nasman takes us inside a county election commission building as ballots get counted in the surprisingly tight race between Democrat Scott Colom and Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith.

With 96% of votes counted as of Thursday morning, Colom was leading by just over 1,000 votes. If Colom wins the race, he would be the first black US senator elected in Mississippi since 1875.

Officials say all ballots must be counted by November 13.
