Continental Cup: Cardiff Devils to host final group for second year

Cardiff Devils will have home advantage as they bid to win the Continental Cup trophy in January.

It will be the second year in a row that Cardiff’s Vindico Arena has played host to the International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) second-tier European competition.

The trophy will be decided by a round-robin format, with HC Arlan (Kazakhstan), GSK Katowice (Poland) and Bruleurs de Loups (France) joining Devils from January 16-19.

Cardiff are playing in the competition for the third successive year and reached the final group after finishing second behind HC Arlan in November’s third-round group.

They were beaten 6-3 in their final game by the Kazakhstan side who are the top-ranked team among the four in this year’s final. Devils are the lowest ranked side.

Cardiff won one of their three games in last season’s final group, a 3-2 victory over Katowice who return to the Welsh capital in 2025.

However, Devils finished third for a second successive season after losing to Denmark’s Herning Blue Fox and Kazakhstan’s Nomad Astana.

In a change to the format in January, matches will be played on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
