Footballer attack: Two charged over Llanrumney violence

Two men have denied attacking a football player and breaking his kneecap after an amateur match.

Joel Collins, 32, had surgery after suffering a “life-changing injury” to his leg following his team Avenue Hotspur’s away game against Llanrumney Athletic in Cardiff on Saturday.

Benjamin Dean, 28, from Trowbridge, and Ryan Rees, 22, from Llanrumney, denied violent disorder at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday

The court also heard how two other suspects wanted in connection with the case had “fled and are wanted by police, with officers believing they are in Valencia”.
