Yorkshire: Jonny Bairstow relishing Warwickshire clash after last month’s mauling

Yorkshire captain Jonny Bairstow is relishing their County Championship match against Warwickshire at Scarborough after the Bears savaged them last month.

Warwickshire handed Yorkshire a 377-run mauling at Edgbaston and Bairstow says the White Rose county have not forgotten that ahead of the opening day on Friday.

Warwickshire are second in Division One, with just loss, while Yorkshire are eighth and Bairstow told BBC Radio Leeds: “We look forward to this week, up at Scarborough. We know it’s going to be an amazing week.

“Warwickshire gave us a hiding at their spot, so there’s plenty on the line with that.

“Look, coming off the back of some momentum and some good performances in the T20s, hopefully the boys can kick on.”

Bairstow, 36, insists Yorkshire’s confidence is high, despite their 12-run defeat at Leicestershire in the T20 Blast on Sunday.

Yorkshire top North Group by four points with four wins from their six games.

“If you’d have said at the start of the competition that we would have been four from six, then we would have taken that after the run that we’d been on,” he said.

“However, we’ll look back on this one as one we should have been on the other end of.

“We’re happy with how we’ve been playing. In T20 cricket, there are going to be a couple of hiccups along the way, but that’s part and parcel of it and we have to learn from it.”

Bairstow made a quickfire 39 before Yorkshire were all out for 135 and the former England all-rounder knows this was poor.

“Yeah, bitterly disappointing, it just wasn’t good enough,” he said. “To have got off to a good start like that, I think we lost 25 for six and that’s extremely poor.

“We also put a couple of chances down, which doesn’t help. But look, there’s no hiding from it, the batting there just wasn’t up to scratch.”
