A woman has died after being hit by a falling tree branch in Manchester.

It happened near the junction of Barlow Moor Road and Stanton Avenue in Didsbury at about 19:15 BST on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said.

“Despite the best efforts of emergency workers, a woman in her 40s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,” the force added.

The death was not being treated as suspicious.

It comes just over two weeks since a similar incident in neighbouring Lancashire, in which a 32-year-old woman was also killed by a falling branch.

Madia Kauser was struck while walking with her husband and two children in Witton Country Park in Blackburn on 11 August.
