Woman jailed for drink-driving at twice the limit

A woman caught driving at twice the legal alcohol limit after swerving around a roundabout has been jailed for eight weeks a day after it happened.

Thursida Prasanthan, 39, was stopped by police in Norwich on 10 November after a member of the public alerted them to a woman smelling of alcohol getting in a car and driving off.

Prasanthan, of Dussindale Drive in the city, was stopped by police on Plumstead Road East at about 17:30 GMT, where she failed a roadside breath test.

She admitted drink driving, driving whilst disqualified, wilfully obstructing a police officer and driving without third party insurance.

Appearing for sentencing at Norwich Magistrates Court a day after the offences, she was also disqualified from driving for 80 months and ordered to pay an £154 surcharge.

Norfolk Police said she repeatedly gave false details to both the arresting officer and the custody sergeant in Wymondham.
