A great-grandmother involved in a fatal collision in the car park of her GP surgery fell before being hit by a car, an inquest opening has heard.

Celia Adams, 81, from Henllan, Denbighshire, died at the Royal Stoke University Hospital on February 28, 10 days after the incident at the Brynffynnon Surgery in Denbigh.

She had fallen behind a car which then collided with her, senior coroner John Gittins told the hearing in Ruthin.

She was originally taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital but then transferred to the trauma unit in Stoke.

The provisional cause of death was given as respiratory failure due to multiple fractured ribs.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

In a tribute after her death her family described her as “a woman of many talents who had the biggest heart”, and said she was “the glue that held us all together”.

Mrs Adams  loved dogs and rehomed many over the years, they added.
