A 38-year-old woman has died in hospital three days after a fire in a ground floor flat in Paisley.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in the Renfrewshire town’s Barterholm Road at about 23:00 on Sunday.

Seven people were taken to hospital. The woman died from her injuries on Wednesday.

Police have launched an investigation into how the fire started and anyone with information is urged to contact them.

Det Insp Euan McMillan said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said four fire engines and one height vehicle were sent to the blaze.

Eight properties were evacuated as a precaution and people affected were provided with alternative accommodation.

The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched seven ambulances, special response teams, paramedics and a trauma team.

Three people were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, two to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and two to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.
