A woman died from injuries including multiple organ failure two weeks after being hit by a car, an inquest has heard.

An inquest into the death of 38-year-old Shelley Davies heard there was “an incident involving an altercation and a motor vehicle” on 27 September 2025 in Caerau, Cardiff.

Earlier this month, Kian Bateman, 18, from Ely, was charged with the murder of Ms Davies and causing grievous bodily harm to another victim, named in court as David Bratcher.

The inquest was adjourned until a later date and assistant coroner for South Wales Central Andrew Morse sent his condolences to the family.

Ms Davies, from Caerau, died at the University Hospital of Wales on 18 October, with her provisional cause of death given as multiple organ failure, multi resistant chest wound and blood infections and poly trauma including bowel ischemia, thoracic and leg injuries.

Ms Davies was one of three pedestrians hit by a car in the incident on 27 September, South Wales Police said.

The court heard “the police were dealing with two males” and an investigation was “ongoing”.

Kian Bateman appeared before magistrates in Cardiff on 20 October where he was remanded in custody until a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court.
