Woman critical after being set on fire at house

A woman has sustained serious injuries after she was sprayed with accelerant and set on fire in Dublin.

It happened at a residential premises in the Oak Downs area, Clondalkin, at about 10:10 local time on Tuesday, gardaí (Irish police) have said.

The woman was removed from the scene to hospital, where she is understood to be in a critical condition.

A man was also injured during the attack and has also been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.

The woman answered a knock on the door and an accelerant, which appears to have been petrol, was sprayed on her and set alight, RTÉ are reporting.

She is understood to have sustained severe burn injuries to her face and body.

There were a number of other people in the house at the time. The emergency services, gardaí and fire brigade were called.

The fire was extinguished and paramedics treated the seriously injured woman at the scene before removing her to Tallaght University Hospital.

The scene at Oak Downs has been sealed off and a forensic examination is underway.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either incident to contact them.
