Wolves are due to open contract talks with Jorgen Strand Larsen after rejecting Newcastle’s bids in the transfer window.
Offers of £50m and £55m for the striker were turned down before the Magpies signed Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa from Brentford.
Norway international Strand Larson only signed for Wolves permanently for £23m in the summer after joining on loan from Celta Vigo last year.
But Wolves are prepared to offer him improved terms having rebuffed the strong interest from Newcastle, who had made him one of their top targets.
He scored 14 goals in 30 league starts last season as Wolves finished 16th and has netted twice this term, in the 3-2 EFL Cup win over West Ham.
The 25-year-old missed last week’s 3-2 Premier League defeat by Everton with a minor Achilles injury, Wolves having lost their opening three top-flight games.
Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi confirmed the club always planned to keep the forward and expects him to move on from the window.
He said: “[We] never considered selling him in the window. He is a very good boy, very honest and also very generous.
“I have no doubts about him. Sometimes in the market every person has some chance in their career but I believe he will forget about it and commit to the team.
“We had a very good conversation with him. After he comes back from some small injuries he will be ready. I’m sure he will score a lot.
“Jorgen is one of the most important players in the squad. He scored 14 goals and I hope he can score 20 goals this season.
“Hopefully he can improve to become a top striker in the league and the world.”
