‘Why Gavin & Stacey stars got in touch with me at Christmas’

The owner of a cafe made famous after featuring in Gavin & Stacey has said he fought back tears watching the show’s last episode.

The finale of the hit BBC show – written by James Corden and Ruth Jones, who also star as Smithy and Nessa – aired on Christmas Day, and attracted 12.3m viewers.

Marco Zeraschi, who runs Marco’s in the south Wales resort of Barry Island – where Stacey worked – said: “Ruth got in touch with me yesterday morning, Larry (Lamb, who plays Gavin’s dad Mick) phoned me on Christmas morning, James sent me a lovely message.”

Meanwhile, the BBC has confirmed that despite a report in one newspaper, there are no plans for a Gavin & Stacey spin-off show.
