We expect a lot of slick roads in the morning, secondary more so than primary roads. The cold will stick around all week with highs and lows well below seasonal averages.
Central and eastern North Carolina
Lots of chilly sunshine is in the forecast for Tuesday with continued breezy conditions. Areas of leftover snow and sleet, along with black ice, will continue to cause travel issues in some areas tonight and in the morning. Dry weather is expected through the workweek with temperatures staying well below normal.

1. Crews help remove snow and ice from parking lots across Triad after winter storm
Craig Whitley, owner of Tim Whitley Hauling and Grading, spent Monday traveling around the Triad to clear parking lots before covering surfaces with salt. His company has been in business since 1992. He says weather can be unpredictable this time of year but that preparation is key.
2. Duke Energy warns of scam targeting consumers
Duke Energy said a scam is going around that’s trying to trick customers. Customers have reported receiving a text claiming to be from Duke Energy, saying they will be affected by a scheduled outage. It asks the recipient to click on a link. “This message did not come from Duke Energy,” Duke Energy wrote in a Facebook post.
3. Hornets take 50-point lead for 2nd time this month, roll past 76ers 130-93
Brandon Miller scored 30 points, and the Charlotte Hornets took a 50-point lead for the second time this month on the way to rolling past the Philadelphia 76ers 130-93 on Monday afternoon. All five Hornets starters finished in double figures. Kon Knueppel and Moussa Diabate scored 12, LaMelo Ball added 11 and Miles Bridges finished with 10 for Charlotte, which has won three straight games for the first time this season.

This past weekend, temperatures were low in the mountains, freezing rain fell and ice covered everything. It was a sight that covered all of the mountain counties, making travel dangerous and keeping people indoors. It’s something N.C. Department of Transportation worker Timothy Oxentine said he was thankful for.
