Wayne Rooney on England’s Euro 2004 heartache

Former England striker Wayne Rooney says he was ‘heartbroken’ after being forced off with a broken foot in England’s Euro 2004 quarter-final against Portugal.

Rooney also reveals how he felt the tournament hosts were “intimidated and scared” of the way he played, and recalls having to watch England’s elimination on penalties from a Portuguese hospital bed.
