Wayne Pivac: Super region would have strengthened Welsh rugby

Former Wales head coach Wayne Pivac says Welsh rugby would be in a “different state right now”, had a proposed Ospreys and Scarlets merger taken place in 2019.

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) will this month outline how they plan to cut a professional men’s side by 2028, with Ospreys and Scarlets competing to be the team in west Wales.

Pivac, who was the Scarlets head coach at the time, told the Scrum V podcast: “If we had changed back then, who knows how many we’d have in the stands watching a game in Swansea or Llanelli.”
