Thousands of residents have been evacuated as large wildfires reached the suburbs of Athens, with flames as high as 25m (80ft).
The BBC’s Jessica Parker is at the scene, where a huge plume of smoke can be seen coming from a timber yard.
Homes and properties – including a school – in nearby towns are on fire as the wildfires continued overnight.
Aircraft working to extinguish the flames were forced to land when the sun set, making it a ground operation overnight. Residents have complained of a lack of fire trucks and firefighters, and the Greek authorities have accepted offers of international assistance.
