Firefighters have been rescuing people from the upper floors of a block of flats after a major blaze broke out.
The fire started in the stairwell of flats in Rynet Court, Marsh House Lane, Warrington, at about 17:20 GMT, Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service said.
Crews from Warrington, Birchwood, Lymm and other stations across Cheshire have been tackling the blaze.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have been sent in to try to bring the fire under control and people are being asked to avoid the area.
Local councillor Sagheer Zaman posted on Facebook: There is currently a fire at the Rynet court apartments on Marsh house lane.
“The fire services from Warrington, Knutsford, Lymm, Penketh and Birchwood are present at the scene. Please avoid the area for your safety.
“I will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Any concerns please inbox me.
“Stay safe, everyone.”
A Warrington Council spokesman said it is looking at the possibility of setting up a relief centre.
