Video showed water from a burst sewer main gushing on to a flooded railway station’s platforms and tracks.
The first part of the footage, at Rye House in Hertfordshire, was filmed on Wednesday evening by onlooker John Shambrook, who is heard saying: “I think that’s slowly turning into a lake. Actually it’s a river.”
The second clip shows the station in daylight a few days later, with water continuing to flow over platforms.
Train company Greater Anglia confirmed the signalling system had been damaged and services between Broxbourne and Hertford East would be halted until Christmas Eve.
Thames Water said it was working “day and night” and doing everything possible to carry out the “complex repair”.
It said temporary pipes had been installed above ground to redirect the flow of water and allow engineers to dig into the road to fix the pipe.
