Victor Willis, Village People’s YMCA songwriter, dies | Ents & Arts News

Victor Willis, the frontman of the Village People and co-writer of their massive hit YMCA, has died, his family have said.

Posts on Willis’s Facebook page and the band’s page announced his death, with his wife saying it was with “profound sadness”.

The post on his page said: “It is with profound sadness that I must announce the death of my husband, VICTOR WILLIS. Victor passed away on Tuesday June 30, 2026 as a result of a short, but aggressive illness. The family request privacy at this time of great loss.”

The post on the band’s page was very similar.
