Vance vs Walz: BBC Verify looks at the claims that could come up

With around five weeks to go until election day, the US vice-presidential candidates will face each other on Tuesday in their only scheduled debate of this election.

Tim Walz – the Minnesota governor – will be representing the Democrats and Kamala Harris.

JD Vance, the Ohio senator, will be making the case for the Republicans and Donald Trump.

They’ll be debating important issues including immigration and the economy, and BBC Verify’s fact-checking team will be looking out for some key claims – as Merlyn Thomas explains.
