US justice department subpoenas Minnesota officials in obstruction probe

The US justice department has served subpoenas to Democratic Minnesota officials alleging that they conspired to impede federal immigration officers in the state, the officials said.

Governor Tim Walz, along with Attorney General Keith Ellison and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, are among those who were served on Tuesday, when US Attorney General Pam Bondi visited Minnesota following intense protests.

Frey, in a statement to CBS, said the DOJ is pursuing him for disagreeing with the Trump administration. Ellison accused Trump of weaponising the justice system.

Walz called the probe a “partisan distraction”, saying the DOJ “does not seek justice” in the killing of protester Renee Good, 37.
