Up to 20 teenagers rescued from choppy seas off Fleetwood

Up to 20 teenagers were rescued from choppy seas off the Lancashire coast.

HM Coastguard said the children were helped on Friday evening in Fleetwood after they got into difficulty in rough seas “a significant distance out from the sea wall”.

One coastguard entered the water to carry out a “tethered snatch rescue” to save two children in what was described as “challenging rescue”. A throw bag was also used to rescue another teenager.

Three of the teenagers were taken to hospital after swallowing sea water. The others managed to get back to shore safely.
