The Ukrainian Naval Band has joined the Band of the Scots Guards for a performance at Buckingham Palace to mark Ukraine’s independence day.

The two bands played in formation at the changing of the guard on Monday, with the Scots Guards wearing their distinctive red tunics and bearskin hats, and the Ukrainian navy dressed in white.

The performance came a day after the Independence Day of Ukraine, which falls on August 24, and has taken on greater significance since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

Posting about the performance on social media, the UK’s Ministry of Defence wrote: “We stand by you, Ukraine. Now and always.”
