Two women dead and boy, 9, seriously injured in Pleasley crash

Two women in their 20s have died in a crash that also left a nine-year-old boy with life-changing injuries.

A further three men, who were travelling in a second car involved in the crash in Pleasley, on the Derbyshire-Nottinghamshire border, at about 06:20 GMT on Thursday suffered injuries, with two in a serious condition, Derbyshire Police said.

An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene in Common Lane on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, before being taken to hospital due to injuries he sustained in the crash.

Police have asked for witnesses who saw the two cars involved, a Suzuki Alto and Vauxhall Meriva, to make contact.

The force said the women’s families “are aware and our thoughts are with them”.

The road was shut between the A617 and Meadow Lane while emergency services worked at the scene.

Fire crews from stations in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire were also sent to the scene.

The road remained closed into Thursday afternoon with drivers asked to find alternative routes.
