Two men charged over Fife frost-jacking incidents granted bail

Two men charged in connection with “frost-jacking” incidents, where cars left unattended with their engines running were stolen, have been granted bail.

Three thefts happened over a 50 minute period on 21 November outside homes in Glenrothes, Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy in Fife.

All three of the cars have now been recovered.

Charlie Johnson, 29, from Solihull and Daniel Toms, 34, from Birmingham, appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Friday charged with two counts of vehicle theft.

They had previously been remanded in custody at a petition hearing at the court four days earlier.

Their next appearance is yet to be confirmed.

Owners had left their vehicles unattended while the engine was running in order to defrost them.

The first car stolen was an Audi A3 in Glenrothes, which was reported at about 08:00 on 21 November and was traced in Kirkcaldy a short time later.

The second was a black Hyundai i40 taken from Kinghorn, Burntisland, reported at about 08:40. It was traced later.

The third was a blue BMW X3 in Kirkcaldy, which was reported at about 08:50 and traced nearby a short time later.
