Trump has called to nationalise US elections. Is it a big deal?

US President Donald Trump has urged Republicans to “nationalise” elections while repeating his false claims of 2020 election fraud in a podcast interview.

The US Constitution says that individual states determine how they carry out elections, and voting has long been administered by local officials across the country.

The BBC’s Washington correspondent Daniel Bush explains why the president’s comments are causing a stir in a midterm election year.
