Trecco Bay caravans for neurodivergent children may be forced to close

Flewers ended up owning four caravans and bookings would be taken up to two years in advance.

She said the money earned goes towards sustaining the caravans, ground rent and sensory equipment.

“We don’t take any money from it, everything we do is voluntary,” she said.

Ground rent alone would cost her £8,000 per caravan and cost hundreds of pounds for sensory equipment to be replaced, meaning she has now scaled back to two caravans.

Flewers said she continued the project because she understood the difficulties families with neurodivergent children have had to face.

“If we close, it’s just going to be horrific,” she said.

“It’s going to be so detrimental to a lot of families.”

She runs a Facebook community of about 112,000 followers giving away sensory items and having a SEND pen-pal programme to make people feel less alone.

Within the SEND community, she has noticed that many families have faced financial struggles to support their children.

“I just want people to know there is a place where you can come and be heard and not be judged,” she added.

Visitors tell her how refreshing it is going somewhere they “didn’t need to pack a part of my house for”.
