Tom Hanks cheers on Aston Villa at final home game

“Good news on the horizon, lets hope so. Up the Villa! Forever Villa,” he said before the game against Liverpool kicked off.

He could be seen cheering them on when Villa equalised in the 88th minute.

Hanks decided to support Aston Villa when he spotted their name in a list of results and thought it sounded “like a place you’d go on holiday in the summertime”.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s manager Jurgen Klopp returned to Villa Park for the final time as manager of Liverpool.

Hanks’ visit comes as US stars have had a larger presence at British football games in recent years.

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took full ownership of Welsh club Wrexham AFC in February 2021 and NFL star Tom Brady invested in Villa’s neighbours Birmingham City.
