He has been banned from running in the upcoming presidential election by an Ivorian court following a row about his nationality.

The court said that Thiam lost his Ivorian citizenship when he became a French citizen in 1987.

Thiam has since given up his French nationality, but the court stated he should be removed from the electoral roll because he was a French national when he registered.

Analysts say the decision cannot be challenged, potentially ending Thiam’s presidential hopes.

But he told the BBC’s Catherine Byaruhanga that he is going to appeal and is still in the race.
