Threats against my family are cowardice

Ireland’s Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) Simon Harris has described threats against his family as “cowardice”.

“As a father, I have very strong views and feelings on this as you can imagine,” he said.

“As a political leader, I find it unacceptable in every way.”

An Garda Síochána (Irish police service) has confirmed it is investigating.

The Fine Gael leader’s statement continued: “Let me be clear: threatening people – any person – is a crime.

“Threatening children is despicable. It is cowardice and it is a line that no decent society should tolerate being crossed.”

In August 2024 a man was arrested over online threats made against Harris.

It followed a bomb threat made against the Fine Gael leader’s home and a threat, mentioning knives, which was made on Instagram.
