SWPL: Old Firm derby features in first post-split fixtures

Celtic v Rangers in SWPL
League leaders Rangers, Celtic and Glasgow City are split by just four points at the top of the SWPL

An Old Firm derby between SWPL leaders Rangers and Celtic features in the opening round of post-split fixtures.

With the pair separated by just four points, the match on 17 March could be pivotal at the top of the table.

Reigning champions Glasgow City are also in the race as they sit level on points with second-place Celtic.

All three title hopefuls will meet in the first three rounds of fixtures as City host Celtic on 31 March before going to Rangers two weeks later.

At the other end of the table, there is potential for a final-day relegation decider between bottom pair Montrose and Hamilton Academical, who welcome Motherwell for a Lanarkshire derby in the first post-split weekend.

The final two rounds of the 22-game regular season schedule will be played on 3 and 10 March, with the league then splitting in half and each team playing 10 matches. You can find all the season’s remaining fixtures here.

SWPL managing director Fiona MacIntyre said: “The feedback from across the game has been that the split was a welcome addition to the women’s game last season, creating incredible drama and allowing us to showcase the very best of women’s football in Scotland.

“We expect it will have a similar impact this season and we now look forward to a fantastic finale with the title, European qualification, and avoiding relegation all being played for across the next few months.”
