Swimmer dies after getting into difficulty in County Donegal

A woman in her 50s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in County Donegal.

Gardaí (Irish police) were alerted to the incident shortly after 19:00 local time on Friday.

The woman was airlifted from the water off the coast of Glencolmcille and taken to Sligo University Hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.
