A swan on the tracks at Glasgow Central Station has caused major disruption to train services.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded after ScotRail cancelled or delayed about 30 rush hour services from the station.

Transpennine Express services and Avanti West Coast trains were also impacted by the bird, which was spotted walking along the station’s high level railway tracks.

Network Rail Scotland said it had sent a response team and the bird was removed “safely out of harm’s way”.

ScotRail said the swan’s unscheduled visit was expected to have a knock on effect on trains until about 20:00.

A spokesperson said: “Good news, the swan has been moved and is now safely away from the railway.

“It’s a little distressed, but recovering well. Thank you for your patience, we really do appreciate it.”
