A suspicious object has been found at a construction site in Coleraine, County Londonderry, which is understood to be a suspected piece of historic munitions.

Police are at the scene and Army Technical Officers (ATO) have been called to the Strand Road area of the town to examine the item as a precaution, police said.

No evacuations have been carried out and no road closures are in place, but police have asked members of the public to avoid the area.

Further updates are expected once the ATO have completed their assessment.
