Suspect arrested over assault after man, 53, found dead in Edinburgh

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with assault after the death of a man in Edinburgh.

Police said the alarm was raised at a property in Westfield Road, in the Gorgie area of the city, at about 12:55 on Friday.

The 53-year-old, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The closure of the street caused some traffic disruption ahead of the Taylor Swift concert at nearby Murrayfield.

Det Insp David McAlinden said inquiries remained ongoing but it was being treated as a “contained incident”.

He added: “Westfield Road has been closed to allow for investigations to be carried out in the area.

“We know this has had a significant impact on the local community and wider public so we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
