Super Rygbi Cymru: Ebbw Vale 27-10 Llandovery – Drovers win title at Eugene Cross Park

It was 10-10 after a chaotic first half featuring two yellow cards apiece and plenty of missed opportunities for the Drovers.

Euros Evans’ side should have hit the front in the sixth minute but fly-half Ioan Hughes trod on the dead-ball line when trying to ground the ball close to the posts.

After penalties were traded, it was Ebbw that went over for the first try thanks to an 11-man driving line-out that led to hooker Corey Lewis going over.

Drovers levelled when centre Rhodri Jones hit a hard line to power over but the visitors’ inefficiency in the 22 – and faltering line-out – meant that they failed to make the most of the wind at their backs.

That theme continued in the second half until they eventually ground down the Ebbw defence, in which Canada flanker Sion Parry was a constant menace, for Doel to cross down the right.

The wing then raced down the same flank straight from the restart after a superb break by livewire Scarlets full-back Jac Davies.

Hughes converted to make it 22-10 but missed a penalty that would have made it a three-score game on the hour.

Rees ensured that would not matter when he displayed footballing skills with both feet to go over from a loose ball for a 27-10 lead.

The Steelmen, who edged a thriller with Newport to make the final, did not allow heads to drop but had to settle for being runners-up for the second season on the bounce after being scoreless in the second half.

To add to their misery, lock Dylan Bartlett was sent off for a dangerous clear-out in the last minute.
