Sunderland AFC release Bradley Dack and Corry Evans

Corry Evans and Bradley Dack will leave Sunderland next month after their contracts expire.

Both players suffered injuries which limited their involvement in the Black Cats season, and they are the big names to be left off the club’s retained list.

Evans, 33, was a key member of the team that won promotion back to the Championship in 2022 after four seasons in League One.

He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2023 and only returned to training with the club in March.

The Northern Ireland international started his career at Manchester United and also played for Hull City and Blackburn Rovers.

Dack, 30, signed a one-year deal after leaving Blackburn last summer but he has also had injury troubles, which restricted him to 16 league appearances this season.

The other first-team squad members to be released are Jack Diamond, 24, with the club opting not to trigger a one-year extension following a loan spell at Carlisle United, and academy graduate Ellis Taylor, 21, who made five appearances in the EFL Trophy and EFL Cup over three seasons.
