Successful test flight from Coningsby for iconic Lancaster bomber

One of the world’s most famous military aircraft has returned to the skies after renovation work.

Avro Lancaster PA474 took off from RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, on Monday following repairs over the winter.

The plane, which is part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), is a familiar sight at airshows and events across the country.

It is one of only two Lancasters still in flying condition, and the only one in the UK.

“We are pleased to confirm that after a successful post-maintenance air test, Lancaster PA474 is airworthy,” an RAF spokesperson said.
