A crash left a speedboat blocking the Tyne Tunnel, leading to major traffic disruption.
Vehicles at the crossing were held in both directions after two cars crashed and the boat, which was being towed by one of the vehicles, fell on to the carriageway.
Operator TT2 Limited said it was working with emergency services to reopen the route “as safely and quickly as possible”.
Traffic at the tunnel came to a standstill shortly before 19:00 BST on Saturday, with drivers advised to seek alternate routes.
