Police are investigating a series of thefts from properties along the Great Glen in the Highlands.

Since December, there have been break-ins at Fort Augustus, Letterfinlay, Banavie and Drumnadrochit.

Alcohol, money and jewellery have been stolen.

Police said two men were seen acting suspiciously in the Fort Augustus area on 5 January, and officers are trying to establish whether the break-ins are linked.

Police Scotland said incidents had occurred since last month:

  • Fort Augustus: A number of properties in the Station Road, Arcdachy Road and North Canal Side areas were broken into between December and Wednesday 7 January. Alcohol was reported stolen from one property and inquiries are ongoing if anything was taken from other homes.
  • Drumnadrochit: A break-in on Kilmore Road is believed to have happened between Saturday 10 January and Tuesday 13 January.
  • Letterfinlay: Two adjoining properties were broken into between Saturday 3 January and Friday 9 January. A three figure sum of money was taken.
  • Banavie: A break-in reported at 02:10 on Tuesday 13 January. Jewellery and other items were stolen.
  • Kingussie: A property in Newtonmore Road in Kingussie was broken into and reported to police on Thursday 9 January.

Det Sgt Laura Mackay said inquiries were ongoing.

“Anyone with private CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage from the relevant dates and locations is encouraged to review it and contact police if they believe it may assist our inquiries,” she said.

“I would like to remind residents to be vigilant and mindful of home security.

“Keep all windows and doors locked and consider installing doorbell cameras, security cameras and alarms.”
