Southwark: About 2,000 people evacuated after suspected gas leak

About 2,000 people have been evacuated from buildings in Southwark, south London, over a suspected gas leak.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said it was called to Southwark Street, by the junction of Great Suffolk Street, on Wednesday afternoon.

“A cordon and road closure is in place and several buildings have been evacuated as a precaution,” LFB said on X, formerly Twitter.

The brigade said no-one had been reported injured and advised people to avoid the area.
