Southport Rugby Club players answer 86-year-old’s odd request

James Cook and Callum Tootle, who play for the club, came to Mrs Robinson’s rescue the following evening, tipping the chair over and retrieving the remote.

“I obviously called the right people – it took about five minutes to do the necessary,” Mrs Robinson said

“We found it and then Homes Under the Hammer was back on,” Mr Tootle added.

Mr Cook said he initially thought the club’s chairman was “winding him up” when he told him about the request, but said he was more than happy.

Mr Tootle added that helping the local community was an important role of any sporting club.

“Most people involved in community sport…they’d say yes to this any day of the week,” he said.

“It’s a small thing, but it means a lot to Angela.”
