Southend couple turn up to wedding in bin lorry

A street cleaner who swapped the traditional wedding car option for a new bin lorry said it was his wife’s idea.

Danny Fitzpatrick-Ailara swept wife April off her feet by turning up in the refuse vehicle for the wedding in Southend-on-Sea last week.

The 58-year-old said he was surprised when his company Suez, the contractor for the city council, agreed to the whacky suggestions.

“I realised we had a new fleet coming so when I spoke to my operations manager about it, he told me they were being delivered on the day,’ he explained.

The couple, who first met at school and have been together for 16 months, were the first passengers to christen the vehicle – as first reported by the Southend Echo.

Danny is also a music producer in his spare time.

The company had a driver pick them up from home and take them to the registry office at Southend Civic Centre.
