With a massive winter storm hitting the Capital Region and the Hudson Valley, several communities declared snow emergencies ahead of the storm.
Snow emergencies are in place for:
Albany County Executive Dan McCoy declared a state of emergency on Sunday and closed county offices. County offices are expected to reopen on Tuesday, weather permitting.
“Our DPW crews are working hard to keep the roads plowed and safe,” McCoy said in a statement. “We have 30 large plow trucks out on our roads currently with other large pickups with plows and we need to keep people off of them in order to keep those roads clear.”
City of Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy also declared a state of emergency, effective 5 p.m. Sunday and lasting until 8 p.m. Monday
A local state of emergency was issued in Essex and Putnam counties.
Travel bans are also in place for Columbia, Dutchess, Saratoga and Ulster counties.
Troy’s snow emergency will take effect Tuesday once the storm is over.
Mayor Carmella Mantello says this will allow Quality-of-Life Action crews to safely clear the streets.
In New Paltz, the police department is ticketing and towing any vehicles still parked on the road so plows can clear the snow.
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday declared a state of emergency for all of New York.
During a news conference on Friday, Hochul outlined the conditions that are forecasted and the preparations New Yorkers should be taking to stay safe. According to Hochul, the conditions will be dangerous and will impact the entire state.
